Big Breaking – Jashpur Police Apprehends Smuggler from Rajasthan with Illicit Liquor Worth ₹51 Lakh…

In a major operation, Jashpur Police have seized a large consignment of illegal liquor and arrested an inter-state smuggler. This is the third significant action under “Operation Aaghat,” following two previous seizures of illicit liquor from trucks.

On August 4, 2025, Jashpur Police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a suspicious truck bearing registration number UP12AT1845 on National Highway 43 near Agadih village within the City Kotwali police station limits. Upon searching the truck’s trailer, officers discovered a large stash of English-made liquor. The police seized a total of 734 cartons, containing 6,588 liters of illegal English liquor, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹51 lakh.

The truck, valued at around ₹16 lakh, was also impounded. The truck driver, identified as Chima Ram, 26, a resident of Baytu police station area in Barmer, Rajasthan, was taken into custody. During questioning, the accused stated that he was given the truck in Chandigarh, Punjab, and was tasked with driving it to Ranchi. He claimed he was unaware of the contents and was promised ₹45,000 for the job. From Ranchi, another person was supposed to take the truck to Bihar.Police suspect the involvement of a large, sophisticated inter-state smuggling syndicate in this case.

The syndicate, it is believed, employs a cunning method of using different drivers for different legs of the journey to avoid detection. The drivers are given a substantial amount of money to transport the truck to a designated location, where another member of the syndicate takes over. This practice is designed to keep the drivers from knowing the origin and final destination of the illegal consignment. In a similar pattern, Jashpur Police had previously seized two other trucks, one from the Duldula area and another from Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh. These previous operations led to the confiscation of 1,574 cartons, or 14,025 liters, of illegal English liquor worth an estimated ₹1 crore.

A case has been registered against the accused, Chima Ram, under sections 34(1)(a) and 34(2) of the Excise Act at the City Kotwali police station. He has been formally arrested and sent to judicial custody.Senior Superintendent of Police Jashpur, Shashimohan Singh, stated that the investigation is ongoing and that all members of the inter-state liquor smuggling syndicate involved will be brought to justice.Police officials who played a key role in the operation include Station House Officer City Kotwali Ashish Kumar Tiwari, Assistant Sub-Inspector A.S.N. Pal, Head Constable Naveen Dutt Tiwari, Constable Upendra Singh, and Home Guard Thaneshwar Deshmukh.
