Syndicated Gang Exposed for Selling Stolen Bikes Using Forged RTO Documents; Assets Worth ₹16 Lakh Seized

RAIGARH | February 1, 2026In a major breakthrough against organized crime, the Raigarh Police, under the direction of SSP Shashi Mohan Singh, has dismantled a sophisticated gang involved in stealing motorcycles and selling them using counterfeit documents. The joint operation by the Punjipathra and Cyber Police stations led to the arrest of seven individuals and the recovery of 25 stolen bikes, a high-end Apple laptop, and a color printer.

The Modus Operandi:

From Theft to Tech-Savvy ForgeryThe investigation revealed a highly structured criminal network. The primary thief, Mukesh Chauhan, along with accomplice Vikesh Das (currently in jail), targeted busy markets across Raigarh, Tamnar, and Gharghoda. To evade detection during sales, Chauhan collaborated with Chandra Kumar Yadav, a manager at a local auto dealership. The gang utilized the technical expertise of Ajay Patel (a Public Service Center operator and former RTO computer operator) and Sanjay Agariya.

The group used a calculated process to deceive buyers:

Data Extraction: They extracted original owner details using chassis numbers.High-Tech Forgery: Using an Apple laptop and a specialized printer, they printed high-quality fake RC (Registration Certificate) cards on PVC blanks ordered online.Market Infiltration: The forged documents allowed them to sell stolen bikes to unsuspecting dealers and individuals, convincing them the vehicles were legitimate.Police Action and SeizuresThe police have invoked Section 112 (Organized Crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 317(2) and 336(3) for document forgery. The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹16 Lakh.
